In Chinese tradition, each lunar year is represented by one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

The Wood Dragon only occurs once every 60 years, with the most recent years being 1964 and 1904.

In the Chinese zodiac cycle, the Dragon sign appears every 12 years: 1904, 1964, 2000, 2012, and 2024.

Those born under the Dragon sign are believed to symbolize good fortune, strength, health, and the male or ‘yang’ element, which is thought to impart unique personality traits that influence their lives.

During Lunar New Year, there is also the tradition of giving red envelopes containing money (known as angpao) to friends and family, symbolizing wishes for happiness and prosperity in the coming year.
