This skin disease has now become a conversation in the community since its reappearance in many countries in the world, including Indonesia. The presence of Monkey Pox or commonly referred to as monkeypox comes from the African continent and was first discovered in the Congo in 1970 which is transmitted through animal-to-human contact.

Well, the good news is that Monkeypox is not something to be feared or as alarming as the COVID-19 outbreak. Let’s get to know Monkeypox and how to prevent it!

What is Monkey Pox?
Monkeypox, or cacar monyet, can last from 2 to 4 weeks in the human body and is caused by a rare animal virus called the monkeypox virus. This virus can be found in animals like rats, monkeys, and squirrels, primarily from Africa. Monkeypox spreads through direct contact with infected animals, and it can also be transmitted through direct contact with a person who has monkeypox lesions. The good news is that monkeypox can actually resolve on its own with proper care at home.

Symptoms of Monkey Pox
Some of the symptoms that can be caused by the Monkey pox virus can be separated into 2 phases, namely:

1.  Invasion phase, which lasts for 0-5 days and symptoms that can be caused are fever, severe headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes and weakness or lack of energy. This phase lasts for 0 to 5 days and may include symptoms such as fever, severe headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue or lack of energy.

2. Skin Eruption Stage, this phase begins 3 to 5 days after the fever. During this stage, many rashes appear on the skin, particularly on the face, hands, back, and other areas. The rashes will evolve into lesions, starting as flat, reddish lesions that become rough and raised. These lesions will be filled with clear fluid, gradually turning yellow, and eventually form crusts krusta, slowly dry up and disappear on their own.
